Temporary Congregational Educator

Do you have a pedagogical degree and want to work with children and youth in congregational activities? We are now looking for a temporary congregational educator who has the interest and ability to work with younger children and youth.

We are looking for a creative educator who, together with colleagues, wants to welcome more children and youth to our activities. We want to offer a place to feel community, belonging, and safety. A place where they can play, craft, and hang out. But also a place where listening and conversations about faith and life have space.

About the job

As a congregational educator, you will plan and lead children and youth groups together with your colleagues. Your task is to create safe environments for children and youth and teach based on the Bible. You are also an important part of the joint confirmation work of the parish. The position is located in Umeå rural parish where you will be part of a team of about 20 colleagues, two of whom are congregational educators.

Your role includes working with the parish's children and youth activities, including:

• Open activities after school
• Children's choir
• Baby café
• Worship services
• Confirmation and camps

About you

We are looking for someone who is comfortable discussing faith and existential questions with children and youth. As a person, you have good relational skills and can create safe relationships with both children, youth, and their parents. In this role, you will also work with employees and volunteers, which requires your ability to collaborate. You should also be able to independently structure and drive your work forward. We also expect you to have good judgment.

Requirements for the position

• Pedagogical university degree
• Work experience with children and youth
• Basic knowledge of Christian faith and the tradition of the Church of Sweden
• Membership in the Church of Sweden
• Driver's license (B)
• Good computer skills and digital competence

We consider it an advantage if you have experience working within the Church of Sweden or a similar organization and if you can play an instrument. It is also an advantage if you are a trained congregational educator.

Conditions and benefits

The temporary position is 100% with a start date to be agreed upon and lasts for approximately 12 months. The position is based at Backens Church and the rectory. Some working hours will be scheduled for evenings and weekends.

The Church of Sweden in Umeå consists of six parishes that collaborate within the Umeå parish. The parish also has an office with a joint property and cemetery management, administration and booking, HR function, and communication unit. There is also a joint Diaconal Center.
